Description

Economic and Trade Note No. E4. Shanghai, China. August 14, 1939. 3p

Forward a a report made by the American Information Committee - said to be a very representative group American citizens in China, from reliable and authentic course - on the conditions in nine Chinese cities after from 8 to 19 months of Japanese occupation: Soochow, Hangchow, Huchow, Chinkiang, Hsuchow, Kaifeng, Hankow, Canton and Nanking. On the whole, the report draws a very dark picture of the social, economic and political situation in the nine cities surveyed. Information were drawn from "reliable and authentic" sources - with no further details.
