  • Economic and commercial conditions in China during 1915. Memo prepared by Arnold, Peking, May 15, 1916. Improvement in China’s tea and experimental stations, deforestation and water conservancy boards, effect of the war, industrialization (foreign imports vs. domestic manufactures). Concepts: Chinese population, China market, British Law experts in mining. Multiplying the wants of these (Chinese) people. Increasing the purchasing power necessary to the supplying of these wants. Will help to develop a strong independent industrial nation. 
  • American standards vs. British standards. Chinese railways. Peking, October 23, 1920. Arnold report on the commission on railway technics in Peking, including not only Chinese but also British, a.erican, French, Japanese and Belgian engineers and experts in the field. Enclose a confidential report by the American engineering association. Interesting case for: the concept of expert, competition between American vs. British standards and expertise, Pb of translating technical knowledge and standard specifications into Chinese, training of Chinese students in English workshops (same competition between British and American universities).
