In 1949, Shenbao advertisements sold malt extract as medical remedy for brain and stomachaches, or to strengthen the body. They recommended to consume dried malt dried or to drink it with milk:

沖飲：奶味特濃
乾吃：別具風味
康福麥乳精之功效
安神 補腦 健胃 強身
