Advertisements for treating insomnia used the generic and magic term of "panacea" (丸藥 wanyao) in 1914. Note that in 1914, insomnia was systematically associated with headache. In 1924, the change in terminology (from 丸藥 to 催睡藥) suggests that treatments for insomnia became both more rational and specific/autonomous. Note that insomnia was associated with both health and beauty as well (especially when addressing women in the latter case).
