The Cantonese seemed to be reknown for their candies, as suggested by an advertisement published in the Shenbao in 1924. Fruit candies appeared in 1934 in the Shenbao. These qualificative associations suggests a process of diversification and segmentation to better adapt consumers' various tastes and expectations.
