Description

Correspondence in connection with the projected organization of a translation bureau in Shanghai, specifically devoted to the translation and publication of advertising materials for American manfuacturers in China: 

  • Letter dated November 6, 1918, from ssistant Chief of Bureau, to Chief of Research Bureau, Chamber of Commerce of the United States, Washington, D.C., making suggestions as the Chamber of Commerce's idea to organize an translation bureau in Shanghai, aimed to secure an efficient service for the purpose of translating and publishing the catalogues and advertisin matter which American manufacturers desire to distribute in China. - 2p 
  • Letter dated November 18, 1918, from the Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce of the United States of America, Washington, D.C., to Assistant Chief, Bureau of Foreign and Domestic Commerce, Department of Commerce, Washington D.C., requesting information about the existing translation service in Shanghai - 2p. 
  • Letter dated December 13, 1918, from the Assistant Chief, Bureau of Foreign and Domestic Commerce, Department of Commerce, Washington D.C., to the Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce of the United States of America, Washington, D.C., providing information regarding the present translation facilities in Shanghai - 3p
  • Memorandum dated December 4, 1918, from Trade Commissioner in Shanghai John A. Fowles to G.M. Jones, Assistant Chief, Bureau of Foreign and Domestic Commerce, Department of Commerce, Washington D.C., regarding the current translation possibilities in Shanghai - consists of a (very short, yet detailed) list of existing advertising agencies and printing companies (Oriental Priting Co., China Publicity Company, Harvey Advertising Agency, North China ADvertising Co., and advertising departments of several large importers) - 3p
  • Letter dated December 13, 1918 from BFDC, Far Eastern Division, to Associated Advertising Agencies of America, New York, forwarding information regarding current advertising facilities in Shanghai.
