This map shows C.C.A.A.'s connections throughout the world from 1927 to 1936. Two types of connections appeared on this map: clients (red dots) and associated agencies (red stars). Though C.C.A.A. network spread all over the world, most its global connections were located in the United States, especially in New York. We may account for these discrepancies by reminding that the CCAA's managing director, C.P. Ling, studied in New York from 1915-1922. He probably established strong relationships with New York-based and other American firms at the time.
To make this map, I relied on a set of inquiries that various audit firms conducted on CCAA between 1926-1926. More importantly, I relied on the self-promotional brochure that C.P. Ling published for the 10th anniversary of his agency in 1936. This booklet provides an extensive list of Chinese and foreign clients and associates. All materials are available at the Shanghai Municipal Archives (Source: SMA, Q275-1-1840).
