List of U.S. firms in Shanghai, drawn from three special reports made by the US Department of State in 1930, 1931 and 1933:

The first report prepared in 1930 provides the most complete information, including not only the firm's name and local address, but also address of their head office, factory, line of business and type of products, local agents, agencies and branches in China, name of organization of which the firm is members.

In order to fit to the distinction made by the 1931 and 1933 reports, the spreasheet is divided into four sheets: the first sheet entitled "firms" compiled data on companies (corporate entities); the second "professionals" compiled data on professionals and individual practioners (medical practitioners/doctors, dentists and lawyers), the third sheet entitled "representatives" aimed to collect data regarding local representatives of US factories; the last sheet provides keys to the database.
