The table compiles all known members of the Shanghai Rotary Club between 1930-1948, with their name and nickname, date of election (when they joined the Rotary), nationality, organization, occupation, sector of activity, home and business addresses in Shanghai.
The data comes from three successive rosters of the Club (1930, 1940, 1948) found at the Hoover Institution Archives (Calder Papers).
In the first Excel document, the first sheet contains all data (list of members), included duplicates; the second sheet lists unique members only (after removing duplicates) ; and the last sheet contains the key to headers. The second Excel document includes the pivot tables I used to conduct a long-term analysis of membership: duration of membership (2), nationality (3), socio-professional occupation (4), class of service (5). The last sheet contains the key to headers).
NB The Shanghai Rotary Club was established in 1919 by American expatriates as part of the worldwide network Rotary International (the first club was established in Chicago in 1912).
