Until 1949, gynecology relies on self-medication and remains mostly private or secret, if not a "taboo" issue. Note an advertisement for women meatjuice" (婦女補血汁 Funü buxuezhi) in 1924, or a medicine for soothing menstruation pains in the Shenbao in 1941 (月經 救苦丸 yuejing jiukuwan).
