Gonorrhea medicines were advertised only in the Shenbao. This suggest that gonorrhea was a specifically Chinese disease.
Treatments for gonorrhea found their way into a variety of forms to cover the various effects of the diseases over time: apart from the general form of "panacea" (白濁新藥 Baizhuo xinyao, 白濁第一靈藥 Baizhuo diyi lingyao, 白濁聖藥 Baizhuo shengyao), it was sold as syrup (白濁香甜露 Baizhuo xiangtianlu) and pills (白濁丸 Baizhuowan, 立止白濁丸 Lizhi baizhuowan) as early as 1914, and later as ointment to cure skin effects (白濁 (皮膚病) Baizhuo (pifubing) in 1924.
