While the early fad for "Western" clothing and fashion rapidly waned in the 1930s, an unexpected craze for so-called "Western medicines" revived in the Shenbao in 1949. While Chinese or mixed forms of medication has long prevailed in the Shenbao, this suggests that "the West" was still or again vested with positive values, especially in the medical/pharmaceutical sector.
