The generic term "hygiene" (weisheng) appeared very early in the Shenbao, before entering a  process of specializatioon in the 1930-1940. "Bar soaps" (classified as hygienic/health products) appeared later (1941) than "toilet soaps" (1914) (classified as cosmetic products) in the Shenbao.
