Cocktail Rum was advertised in 1924 in the British newspaper North China Daily News only. This suggests that Chinese consumers do not drink rum, on one hand, and that rum was probably competed by new popular beverages after 1934 - either alcholic (beer, whisky) or soft drinks (sodas) - on the other hand. Note that other similar "tropical" or anecdotic alcohols were simultaneously advertised in the North China Daily News: Curacao, Kummel, Cherry Brandy, Creme de Menthe. Advertisements for Martini and Vermouth appeared only in 1934.
