Knowledge for Husband and Wives (From a lecture delivered by Yao Zung-pei, M.D., U.S.A.) - How to enjoy your youth. Apart from the desire to help one another and to further mutual interests there is between the sewes a mysterious factor which draws them together. What is that factor? Plainly, it is sexual intercourse. 
With regard to sexual intercourse and the normal physical development of men and women, there are certain standards of size in different sexual organs and degrees of stamina, where the organs conforms with standards, the desires of both the man and the woman are satisfied, and their conjugal happiness, especially in cases of old-style marriages where love is usually not considered, be well assured. 
To return to our subject, I must draw attention to the fact that should a man injusre his health during his adolescence by abusing his sexual organ, as practising masturbation, his "vernal" gland will be imparied and his seminal dust will become weak. Thus emission will be liable to follow and the organ will become so feeble that it will scarcely erect, if at all, or it will ejaculate at the very commencement of coition. 
When life comes to such a pass, even in cases where husband and wife have previously been most affectionate, conjugal relations will deteriorate. 
If a couple are on moderately food terms, or have had no love for each other from the beginning, worse consequences are likely to follow. 
When a man is in such an unfortunate condition, what (p.2/4) remedial measures can be adopt? (Facts) His penis is like a boy's. When nineteen years of age he discovered that his health was bad and refrained from the bad habit. But he still emits at least four times a week. A present he is suffering from neurastheia, in somnia, bad memory, singing in the ears and excessive pulsation of the heart. 
(Symptoms) Malnutrition, pale complexion, this, under-developed penis, foreskin too long, neurasthenia and seminal emission.

On the other hand, wives and concubines must be beautiful an charming if they wish to make their husbands love them for long. Some men are impotent, and they are so weak that they have not even the strength to enjoy life. Many women are afflicted with various sexual diseases, which are an impediment to conjugal felicity, love and child birth. With reference to the attached translations of advertisements for "Ferocious Tiger Pills", a German manufactured aphrodisiac, in the "Sin Wan Pao" (新聞報 Xinwenbao), 274 Hankow Road, "Hwa Mei Chen Pao" (華美晨報 Huamei chenbao) 172 Avenue Edward VII, "Standard" (夂？報 zhi ? bao), 436 Foochow Road and the "Life Daily News" (生活日報 Shenghuo ribao) 299 Hankow Road, local Chinese language dailies, the authorities concerned were consulted on September 26th with a view to the possible suppression of this advertising matter. 

In the case of the "Sin Wan Pao" and the "Hwa Mei Chen Pao", registered American journals, Mr. Leighton Shields, United States District Attorney, was interviewed. On ascertaining taht the advertisements appeared in the Chinese language, he refused to  concern himself in the matter on the grounds that they would not be likely to cause offense to the good tastes of American citizens, being unintelligible to the latter. 

In the case of the "Standard" a British publication, Mr. Beare, Consul, on behalf of Mr. Egden, Superintending Consul, stated that the advertisement appeared to be couched in cold medical terms with the object of selling a specific for sexual disorders. The advertisers did not appear to haeve gone beyond the explanations of sexual facts which are to be obtained at any bookstores. For this reason, Mr. Beare stated that there did not appear to be good grounds for action.

With regard to the "Life Daily News", a chinese publication, the Acting M.A. Mr. Paul P.Y. Ru was consulted and stated that in his opinion the advertiseemnt in this paper was not indecent and did not warrant prosecution.
