値得一知之種種理由 [FORD]

八汽缸之引擎,如何製入於廉價車輛之中。前已為諸君言之矣。但僅云八汽缸,尙未足以盡其全史。須知八汽缸有兩種不同之形式也。

吾人選用之八汽缸引擎。乃將汽缸分列二行。成一角度。作V字式。並非將八只汽缸排為一行。其理由請得而言之。

吾人將八汽缸分列二行。每行四只。故引擎之長度,幾縮一半。因得成為堅靭密實之動力機器。換言之,V式八汽缸引擎,祇有四汽缸引擎之長。若將全部汽缸直列一行 則引擎勢 必有八汽缸之長度。此則有礙於引擎之密實矣。

V式引擎之一大利益,厥為能使車身之內部更為寬宏。此在一切中等體積之車輛,以備經濟之運用者。殊為重要。而V式八汽缸福特新車,其內容所以非常寬舒者。職是之故。

其另一利益,則關於機器之本身。V式八汽缸之機器。因其兩行汽缸至短。故燃料達於末一汽缸所通過之距離,亦因以縮短。由此每一汽缸所得之燃料。分量至為勻稱。而機器運動時,亦得以更為靜滑。且V式引擎所用之散熱唧筒及水流。各有兩道。不比別種引擎僅有一道。故其散熱作用,又有勻稱之益。

其他種種利益,書不勝書。余將另為文以述之。試舉其一端而言。吾人V式八汽缸車之問世,所以遲而又遲者。正因吾人於其堅韌,耐久,及效率方面。無不鄭重從事。絲毫不肯勤勉茍且故也。

吾人對於V式八汽缸引擎之鑄為整體,曾一再加以改良。然後底於完成。結果,吾人之引擎。非以三數鑄型聯貫而成。乃為密實之一片整體。永使運用部份,保持完美之行列。吾人於此所遭受之困難如何,固不能希望一般讀者皆可知之。但諸君若有一日得目覩吾人在製入引擎引前,鑄造汽缸之情形。必為之驚異不置。而全球汽車工業界應用此種較費方法以鑄造汽缸者。祇有本廠一家而已。今者,吾人之新式車輛。風行各地。大有不脛而走之勢。蓋確有其獨到之優點。故其所以成功之種種理由。殊値得知道也。
