Summarizes the talk given by A. de C. de Soerby, expert in the natural history of China, before the Shanghai Rotary Club. In his talk Sowerby drew a convincing picture of natural history as the wervant of commerce and made an appeal to the Rotary Club to raise fund in order to build a natural history museum, library, and art gallery in Shanghai.
