This pie charts shows the distribution of publications between Shanghai (said to be the center for the press and puslishing business in China at the time) and elsewhere in China. Surprisingly, Shanghai represents only 3% of all publications in China at the time. Yet these figures did not take into account other criteria measuring the qualitative importance of each publication (in terms of readership, spatial coverage, longevity or advertising value).
