TitleCarl Crow's biographical itinerary (1883-1945)
Digitized fileNo
Year Start1883
Year End1945
Description

This map traces the American journalist and advertising agent Carl Crow's biographical itinerary, from his birth in Missouri (1883), to his settlement and business activities in Shanghai (1911-1937), to his final return and death in the United States (1937-1945).

Yet this map lacks mobility. Even though each location is associated to a date - in an attempt to put into practice P. Ethington's proposal to "place the past" (Ethingon, 2007 : 465-493), as well as the equivalence made by him and Casey (Casey, 2007 : 510) between places and events - this map fails to trace actors's movements across space and time. Moreover, it loses the "sense of place" (Casey, 2007: 511) - that is, lived space - by reducing human experience to mere dots dispatched on the abstract and rational space of the map.

NB Pour des raisons de lisibilité et d'interactivité, il est conseillé de consulter la carte directement sur Google Maps, ou de télécharger les fichiers aux formats .kmz ou .kml. Le fichier image n'est placé qu'à titre illustratif.
