Brandy/cognac was one of the earliest spirits advertised in both newspapers, as early as 1914. Yet it disappeared after 1934, probably competed by new popular beverages, both alcoholic (beers) and soft drinks (sodas). Note that in 1924, an advertisement published in the Shenbao offered a combined "brandy cognac" product (白蘭地洒 Bailandijiu).
Note that in 1924, an advertisement offered "Cherry Brandy" to the readers of the North China Daily News only, participating in the wider process of "flavoring" beverages, either soft (sodas, milk) or alcoholic drinks. Yet the rapid disappearance of "cherry brandy" suggests that the product did not enjoyed a great popularity, if not totally failed.
