Will you please furnish us with rules and regulations governing the erection of electrical signs in Shanghai? What we desire is the law regarding the erection of electrical signs in Shanghai such as how high a sign must be hung from the street level; how far the sign may project out over the sidewalk, what safeguards must be taken to protect the lives of the pedestrians, i.e. the size of the cable fastened to the wall, etc. Thanking you in advance for an early reply with this information.

In reply to your letter of the 1st instant, I beg to inform you that the regulations regarding electric signs are that the signs shall be erected at least 11 feet above the footpath and project no more than three feet there from the building line. In no case shall the sign project beyong the curb line. The signs shall be made so as to be structurally safe to the satisfaction of this Department.
