We beg to inform you that we intend to arrange here in Shanghai a Company for demonstrative advertising through moving pictures on the roofs of different houses on Nanking Road along the Whangpoo River up to the Race Club and some other places. The machines as well as the other necessary fixtures will be arranged on the roofs of the houses only with the permission of the landlords. 

Be beg you give kindly consideration to our application and to allow us to commence the erecting works as well as kindly to inform us what we need to do to register our firm for the Demonstrative Advertising through moving pictures. Hoping to receive a favourable reply to our application.

With reference to your letter of the 8th instant (August 1921) I beg to inform you that I am unable to issue a permit to allow illuminated picture advertisements on the roofs of buildings, unless the number and location of each particular building is given. I could add that the use of films can in no case be permitted, and that the construction of the lantern enclosure and the screen would in each case have to be subject to the approval of this Department. Furthermore the position of each structure will be subject to a special consideration from a traffic point of view.

With reference to your letter of the 11th August (1921) we inform you that we wish to show our "Aerial Advertisements" on the roof of the Building L. 601 Thibet Road (near the corner of Thibet Road and Avenue Edward VII). The owner of this building has consented. For our "Aerial Advertisements" we shall not use any films. We shall project the ordinarly glass diapositives only by means of a magic lantern on the screen of linen with the stands. 

For light we shall use incandescent electric lamps. General plan or our "Aerial Advertisements" is to be from the enclosed sketch. 

We ask you to allow us to show our "Aerial advertisement" as per this letter.

With reference to your applicaiton of the 14th instant for a permit to erect a screen and lantern enclosure on the roof of the above premises, for the purpose of showing illuminated advertisements, I beg to inform you that a permit will be issued for a period of one month whereafter it will be subject to withdrawal or renewal as may then be decided by the Council. The Special advertisement fee payable will be at the rate of Tls. 0.50 per square foot per annum. 

The structure must be erected to the satisfaction of this Department and the electric wiring to the lantern must meet with the requirements of the Chief Officer of the Fire Brigade.
