Description

Translation of letter from China Movie Picture Company, Limited (Propaganda Section) to Secretary - "Special Publicity to "Battle of Malay", a film" . Shanghai, October 31, 1942. Source: SMA (SMC), U1-14-3271 (1700-1702). 

We have to inform you that a Chinese version of the film "Battle of Malay" recently produced by the Japan Motion Picture Company under the supervision of the Ministry of War will be released for one week commencing November 12, 1942 at the Grand Theatre and to request your approval for a special publicity campaign to be conducted by us. Particulars of the proposed campaign are herewith enclosed.

You are requested to kindly permit us to give special publicity to two film productions of the Japanese Motion Picture Co. Entitled "the Battle of Burma" and the "Neighbours' Unions" to be shown at the Towa Theatre from November 14, 1942. Particulars of the proposed publicity campaign are herewith enclosed.

This is apparently a Police matter. The curtains should of course be clear of all classes of traffic, but the drawings referred to are not available.

There is no Police objection to the proposed publicity campaign.

In reply to your letter of October 31, the Council offers no objection to your proposed publicity Campaign on the occasion of the showing of two film productions "Battle of Burma" and "Neighbour's Unions" at the Towa Theatre commencing from November 14.
