We beg to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of yesterday's date complaining that the work of erecting an illuminated sign projecting 6 feet beyond the Municipal road line, has been carried out without permission and contrary to the Municipal Regulations. In reply we beg to state that the said illuminated sign is projecting only about 3 feet, instead of 6 feet, which as we know is quite in conformity to the Municipal regulations, and moreover, it is fixed on the house much higher than the ordinary position of a Chinese sign, and that before the erecting about 3 years ago, of the said illuminated sign, we used an ordinary wooden sign of Chinese fashion, which was projecting out further and fixed much lower that the present position of the illuminated sign, and it was due to the complaint lodged by your goodself against the former that the latter was constructed to take its place as a measure of remedy. Owing to the above we earnestly request you to kindly see your way to let it stand as it is. In case you should think it absolutely impossible to have it so, we would like to know the exact tenor of the governing rules so that we shal be able to act accordingly.
