With reference to our to-day's interview with Mr. A.A.G. Toone, we beg to send you herewith our official application of the moving of the hoardings we have at present on North Soochow near the Chinese Post Office, three feet to the front of the present position, that is up to the authorized line of the contractor's building fence.
The above chane in the position of the hoardings has been demanded by the Architects Messrs. Palmer & Turner, and in support of our application, we would like to be permitted to state, that this particular space, lying as it does below the level of the road, is not used at all by pedestrians, and, therefore, the granting of our application would not cause any inconvenience to passers by, - not to mention the fact that our hoardings have a greater decorative appearance the the ordinary building fence which would take their place.
We understand that the Council has at present under consideration the question as to whether advertising hoardings will, in the future, be permitted around fences of buildings under construction.
Should there be no decision arrived at by the time this letter reaches you, we would appreciated a temporary permit be issued in our favour for the moving of the signs. In the event of this being granted and should subsequently the Council pronounce itself against it, we would undertake upon being notified to that effect, to remove our hoardings without further discussion.

Further to our letter of June 7th, we shall thank you for advices, as to whether any decision has been arrived at in regard to hoardings around fences of buildings under construction.
We have been allowed an extension of time by Messrs. Palmer Rutner on the particular site under consideration, but are afraid our signs will have to be removed before the end of this week, unless our request receives a favourable consideration on your part before that time.
